Spinal stenosis is the result of the spine becoming narrower and putting pressure on the spinal cord and nerves in the back. Many patients suffering from spinal stenosis experience pain that travels along the nerves into the back of the leg. Usually stenosis is due to “wear and tear” over a long period of time. For some patients, simple lifestyle changes such as sleeping in a different position, gentle stretches or exercises, joint mibilization or avoiding certain activities may relieve the problem. For more difficult conditions, epidural steroid injections or surgical intervention may be the best soluton.
